Bank Polska Kasa Opieki S.A. (Bank Pekao) is a leading universal bank headquartered in Warsaw, Poland. Established in 1929 originally to serve the Polish diaspora, it has evolved into the second-largest bank in Poland by assets. The bank's business model spans multiple segments: Retail Banking, which serves individuals and micro-enterprises with daily banking, mortgages, and consumer loans; Private Banking for high-net-worth individuals; Corporate and Investment Banking, catering to large enterprises and institutions with financing, interbank market operations, and debt securities; and Enterprise Banking for small and medium-sized businesses. Additionally, the bank's subsidiaries offer asset management (Pekao TFI), brokerage services, leasing, and factoring. Bank Pekao operates an extensive domestic network of branches and ATMs, maintaining a dominant national footprint. While historically part of the Italian UniCredit Group, the bank underwent a 're-Polonization' in 2017 when state-controlled entities Powszechny Zakład Ubezpieczeń (PZU) and the Polish Development Fund (PFR) acquired a controlling stake. Today, it remains a cornerstone of the Polish financial system, generating the vast majority of its revenue domestically through conventional banking operations, net interest income, and fee-based services.
