PBF Energy Inc. is one of the largest independent petroleum refiners and suppliers in the United States. The company operates through two primary business segments: Refining and Logistics. The Refining segment is the core of the business, encompassing six oil refineries located in Chalmette, Louisiana; Toledo, Ohio; Paulsboro, New Jersey; Delaware City, Delaware; Torrance, California; and Martinez, California. These facilities have a combined processing capacity of approximately 1,000,000 barrels per day and produce a broad slate of refined products, including gasoline, ultra-low-sulfur diesel (ULSD), heating oil, jet fuel, lubricants, asphalt, and petrochemical feedstocks. Gasoline and distillates account for the vast majority of the company's total revenues, representing approximately 88% of sales.
The Logistics segment involves the ownership, leasing, operation, and development of crude oil and refined petroleum products terminals, pipelines, storage facilities, and similar logistics assets that support the refining operations. Geographically, PBF Energy distributes its products across the Northeast, Midwest, Gulf Coast, and West Coast of the United States, as well as in Canada and Mexico. Additionally, the company holds a 50% interest in the St. Bernard Renewables joint venture, a biorefinery in Louisiana focused on producing sustainable fuels like renewable diesel. PBF Energy's competitive position is anchored by its high-complexity refining assets, which allow it to process cheaper, heavier crude oils, providing a structural cost advantage in the highly cyclical energy market.
