Founded in 1972 as Dansk Naturgas A/S to manage Danish North Sea oil and gas resources, the company underwent a major strategic transformation, divesting its fossil fuel assets and rebranding as Ørsted in 2017. Today, the company operates through three primary segments: Offshore, Onshore, and Bioenergy & Other. The Offshore segment is the core business, focusing on the development, construction, and operation of large-scale offshore wind farms across Europe, North America, and the Asia-Pacific region. The Onshore segment manages onshore wind and solar farms, primarily in the United States and Europe, while the Bioenergy & Other segment operates combined heat and power plants in Denmark. Ørsted generates the vast majority of its revenue through the sale of electricity and long-term power purchase agreements with utilities, governments, and corporate buyers.
