Enea S.A. is one of the largest vertically integrated energy groups in Poland, operating across the entire electricity value chain. The company's business model encompasses the mining of raw materials, power generation, distribution, and retail and wholesale energy trading. Enea generates electricity through a mix of conventional coal-fired power plants, such as the Kozienice and Połaniec facilities, as well as a growing portfolio of renewable energy assets including wind farms, hydroelectric stations, biogas plants, and photovoltaic installations.
The company's operations are divided into four primary segments: Trading, Generation, Distribution, and Mining. Based on recent financial disclosures, the Trading and Generation segments account for the vast majority of the group's revenue, followed by Distribution and Mining. Enea's distribution network spans approximately 20% of Poland's territory, primarily in the northwestern and western regions, delivering electricity to over 2.5 million residential, commercial, and industrial customers. The Mining segment is anchored by its subsidiary, Lubelski Węgiel Bogdanka S.A., which supplies hard coal primarily used for the group's own power generation needs.
Geographically, Enea's operations and revenue generation are concentrated almost entirely within Poland. The Polish State Treasury holds a majority stake in the company, underscoring its strategic importance to the national energy sector. In recent years, Enea has focused on an energy transition strategy aimed at decarbonizing its generation assets and expanding its renewable energy capacity. This includes significant investments in solar and wind projects, as well as the modernization of its distribution infrastructure to support the integration of green energy and improve grid reliability.
