Companhia Energética de Minas Gerais – CEMIG is a prominent Brazilian state-controlled utility holding company engaged primarily in the generation, transmission, distribution, and commercialization of electric energy, as well as piped natural gas distribution. Controlled by the State of Minas Gerais, which holds a majority voting interest, Cemig operates through wholly owned and affiliated operating subsidiaries, chief among them Cemig Distribuição (Cemig D), Cemig Geração e Transmissão (Cemig GT), and Companhia de Gás de Minas Gerais (Gasmig), alongside equity stakes in power transmission operators such as TAESA.
The group's largest revenue and earnings contributor is its regulated electricity distribution business (Cemig D), generating 55% to 60% of consolidated EBITDA by delivering power over more than 500,000 kilometers of distribution lines to approximately 9.4 million clients in Minas Gerais. The electricity generation and trading business contributes about 20% to 25% of EBITDA, managing over 4.5 GW of installed capacity largely consisting of hydroelectric facilities supplemented by solar and wind assets. Power transmission accounts for approximately 8% to 12% of EBITDA, earning regulated Permitted Annual Revenue (RAP) from more than 5,000 km of high-voltage transmission lines and dozens of substations. Natural gas distribution through Gasmig contributes around 10% of EBITDA. Cemig's shares trade on B3 (CMIG3, CMIG4) and on the New York Stock Exchange (CIG, CIG.C).
